Real Run but Super Slowly

I was going to go to Cross Fit this afternoon, I almost made it there, but traffic was awful and I was late, so I decided I would go for a real run instead - it had been way too long!  Only little snag, it's hot and humid out, that's always bad for me.  I ran by the Mystic River, nice running spot.  I thought I was in one place, but I always get twisted around and confused by that river!  Anyhow, it didn't matter, I knew where my car was.  I wound up going 2.5 miles in pretty much exactly 30 minutes, which is really super slow, a 12 minute mile.  Which is where I'm throwing in the humidity excuse.  I was HOT.  When I got home, 10 minutes after finishing and sitting in my car with AC, my face was still bright red.  So, it's good I didn't push it much harder.

Only 4 more runs until my 200 runaversary!  That's huge.  I wonder what I will get myself??

Cross Fit

I decided last month that just running wasn't enough, the thighs are still getting bigger, so I joined a Crossfit Gym.  Ouch.  I got the two times a week plan, which is about all I can limp through so far.  I decided today I could do a legit blog because at the end of our totally killer workout I ran a mile, and by ran I mean jogged.  The only thing that I felt good about was that although I was the absolute last person in the class to finish the WOD (as we cross fitters call the Work Out of the Day) I did pass a person running.  And I think she only ran a third of a mile.  It's not much, but it's all I got.

So, I haven't done any other running for over a month which is bad.  But, in addition to 3 1/2 weeks of crossfit, I also climbed Mt. Monadnock, Mt. Washington, and Mt. Isolation, so I'm actually not feeling so awful about the running.  Monadnock is a pretty OK hike, I've done it before, steep in some places, pretty from the top.  It was my first time up Washington.  It's of course the highest mountain in NH.  You can drive up it, or there's a train, so of course there are people in flip flops at the top.  I'm not going to lie, I asked how much it was to take the train down but it was $46 and #1 I'm too cheap and #2 I forgot my credit card and only had $15, so I hiked on down.  It was tiring, but OK.  Mt Isolation was 13.2 miles, a couple of which the trail was a stream bed, and I hiked with people who were faster than me, so I got very little rest time.  There were black flies for some of the time.  I had a few dark thoughts - eventually I had to make myself think of things that make me happy - "Macchu Pichu won't be like this, I will get to stop for lunch."  "I have these lovely hiking poles."  "The earth will keep spinning around the sun, and sooner or later I will be in my car."  It was a little pathetic, but effective.
